intellect is valued more when acquired & cultured late in life, but this is accompanied by an almost crushing weight of melancholy. “if only . . .” add to that the overwhelming need to help others cultivate the gift they’ve achieved early. “if i had youth, intellect, AND an older person’s hindsight . . .” only an old person can see the value of that equation of course (beyond lip service that is). the youth wish to be left to find their own way, only to come to the same frustrating conclusions as their elders. it is maddening to watch & realize life is nothing more than a sisphyean task – on every level.
